🎓 What is GRE?
GRE is an international computer-based entrance test, and it is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) of the United States. The test evaluates the state or quality of an individual’s preparation for a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in any field.
🎓 What is the test format?
The two test types available on the exam are the General Test and the Subject Test. The General Test evaluates an individual on general concerns such as verbal ability, numeric reasoning, and analytical writing assessment. The Subject Test emphasizes a specific area of study such as biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, psychology, etc.
The four subject tests in chemistry, mathematics, physics, and psychology are intended for learners who have done extensive study in these fields or who have chosen them as their undergraduate major.
🎓 Why take the GRE?
Admissions or fellowship panels use GRE scores as an additional requirement for graduate-level study in addition to undergraduate records, letters of recommendation, and other credentials to provide schools with a benchmark by which they can compare applicants.
Based on their GRE results, individuals' educational and professional paths are decided.
All prominent colleges around the world, including those in the US, UK, Europe, Singapore, and Australia, accept GRE scores. More than 600 business schools globally accept the GRE score.
Enrollment in a master's program in the US requires the GRE (some exceptions though). A standardized test is used to assess the candidate's capacity for MS studies.
The majority of UK colleges do not require GRE results for admission to UK universities, and the GRE frequently cannot replace IELTS as a reliable English language test. Some UK colleges view the GRE as a vital requirement if the applicant has never studied there before. The GRE is used by institutions even though it is not a requirement for admission to graduate programs in Canada. Furthermore, a lot of universities accept it as a legitimate alternative to GMAT results.
🎓 Which skills will be tested?
1. Verbal reasoning
2. Logic-Based Quantitative
3. Critical Evaluation
4. Analysis of Writing Capabilities
🎓 What is the duration of the test?
The GRE general test is broken up into six sections: a writing section that lasts 60 minutes and includes an argumentative writing task and an issue writing task, two verbal reasoning sections that last 30 minutes each, two quantitative reasoning sections that last 35 minutes each, and one experimental or research section that may be either verbal or quantitative and lasts 30 or 35 minutes. One can decide how the other five sections are organized, but the writing section must always come first. The third section is followed by a longer break of ten minutes, with each portion having an optional one-minute break. The combined testing period for the computer and paper tests is approximately three hours and forty-five minutes.
🎓 When can one take GRE?
Subject exams are given in testing centers that conduct paper exams three times a year, in September, October, and April.
🎓 What is the score range?
The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning score range for the GRE general test are 130 to 170, in one-point increments. The Analytical Writing score ranges from 0 to 6, in half-point increments.
# GRE BEST SCORES
Statistically, an individual will be among the top ten percent of GRE exam takers with these marks.
Verbal: 163–170
Quantitative: 165–170
Writing: 5.0-6.0
# Competitive GRE scores
With these GRE results, you'll be in a very competitive admissions field (top 25 percent of all GRE test takers)
Verbal: 158-162
Quantitative: 159-164
Writing: 4.5
# Good GRE Scores
These GRE scores put you ahead of the competition (50 percent or more), but they won't be as helpful if you're applying to programs with a lot of applicants.
Verbal: 152-158
Quantitative: 153-158
Writing: 4.0
# Lower Than Average GRE Scores
These GRE results will be below average when compared to the test population, yet they might be sufficient to enter a wide range of graduate programs.
Verbal: 151 Or Less
Quantitative: 152 or Less
Writing: 3.5 or less
The verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE are combined to determine the overall GRE score. The 200 to 990 score range on the GRE subject test is divided into 10-point increments. Therefore, a GRE score is anything that is higher than the industry standard.
Graduate programs have wildly diverse GRE score requirements, even within the same university. Overall, a number of variables will influence your capacity to obtain high GRE results.
Generally speaking, programs that emphasize the physical, mathematical, and life sciences place a greater emphasis on quantitative test scores. Programs in the humanities and arts, however, place more importance on outstanding verbal test results.
🎓 What is the acceptable grade standard to get into good universities?
A GRE score of 325 and above should help one to get admission into the topmost universities. Generally, 75% is a pretty good GRE score, and 90% is an excellent one. Thus, we can say that a score of 318 and above is good, whereas a score of 329 is an excellent one.
A score of 300+ is considered average, and a 292 score is considered below average.
🎓 Is there any restriction on attempts?
One is permitted a maximum of five retakes in a single calendar year. The interval between each consecutive retest should be at least 21 days. One can take the GRE as many times as he/she likes.
One is allowed to open an unlimited number of accounts, and is given five chances each year to retake tests.
🎓 Is there any validity period for GRE?
GRE test results are reportable for five years following the test date.
🎓What is the processing time against GRE score request?
It takes five business days for ETS to process the results
